The brand
Gems by Rui began in 2014, long before it was a business. What started with a deep appreciation for jadeite grew into a passion for experimenting, designing and wearing.We aim to make pieces that are contemporary and meaningful for generations to come. We call it the modern heirloom. Today, Gems by Rui is a Singapore registered jewellery business, licensed to deal in precious stones and metals.

I have always been captivated by the connection between people and the jewellery they wear. It is what led me to study design at JDMIS, but designing with jadeite is a beautiful challenge. I constantly question myself: "how do I modernise a material so rigidly bound to flawless tradition without losing its integrity or my insanity?"The answer was wabi-sabi, seeing imperfection as the point. Jadeite taught me that nature rarely pairs intense colour with flawless clarity; by letting go of an impossible ideal, I learned to accept the stone, and myself. Now, I am simply grateful to create beautiful things to be worn and lived in.

Rui is a jewellery designer with experience across a range of bespoke commissions, from everyday pieces to modern heirlooms. Every bespoke piece at Gems by Rui follows a two phase process.See our creations here.

Phase 1

Discovery and Design

We begin with a free 30 minute discovery call. I look forward to hearing from you: what you love, how you wear jewellery and what the piece means to you.

• Discovery Call

After the discovery call online, we will meet with face to face with the stones and explore designs. I will return with two or three hand drawn design for you to choose from. You will receive the final hand drawn sketch.Design fee: SGD $350

Phase 2

Production

When you decide that it is time to bring the design to life, the jadeite, gold, workmanship will be quoted based on the chosen design.We meet with the model before the making make any changes before production.Production fee: Depends on the design

Organic Shaped Intense Purple Jadeite Pendant

There is something about a purple jadeite in its most organic form, shaped between a mango and a pear with a softness that is heart-stopping. The colour shifts between purple, lilac and hints of blues, the way Monet's water lilies move between shadow and light. The bail is 14k-gold filled with Swarovski pearl beads, something that leans vintage without trying.You will reach for this on a sunny day, a coffee date with a few friends at that cute café that you've been meaning to try. Lavender Tinted Teardrop Shaped Necklace

Purple jadeite never looks the same twice. In warm light it deepens and in daylight it softens. This piece sits at the lightest end of that spectrum with a tint of purple that is peeking through.The silhouette is a teardrop and when paired with a lake green spacer bead and gold findings it is just like how Singapore's "sakura season" happens. The combustion of pinks, whites greens all at once.You will wear this with a lace top, sheer puffy sleeves, light blue jeans. A slow morning walk among the blossoms at Gardens by the Bay — unhurried. You don't need that camera, the scene is show stopping.Then someone suggests bubble tea and suddenly you're three floors deep in a mall, in full aircon, having the best unplanned Saturday. The kind of piece that makes people think you just came back from somewhere beautiful.

Flora Styled Leaf Jadeite Pendant

If there is one element that lives an imprint in my heart, it would be the leaf.This particular Flora Leaf is one where nature did most of the design work. Across the surface of the jadeite, natural patterns dance the same way it would through a monstera leaf. Organic, deliberate, impossibly precise for something that was never planned.Markings like these don't repeat. This pattern exists once, on this stone, and nowhere else in the world. The streaks read like modern art. Free flowing and abstract strokes that belong on a gallery wall as much as they belong on you. Set with a translucent flora top bead and gold bail.You can wear this to an art jamming session where it is casual not sloppy. A vest top paired with kaki bottom, complete with minimal sandals. You could have a thin choker chain stacking on top of this piece. Someone across the room will think you planned the whole outfit around it.

Green Jadeite Doughnut Pendant with 18k Gold Cloud Bail

The crème of classics. Doughnut is probably the oldest jadeite form that was ever handed down. This one is not the richest or most intense, but it has a flavour to it. A quiet confidence, no need for announcements.The bail is custom made, 18k gold cloud, set with simple diamonds placed selectively. Because one should be living worry free and enjoying what life brings. Nothing heavier was considered, simple geometry is the best kind.You put this on for errands that is not too far from home but not close enough to go in your pyjamas. Pick up a bottle of fish sauce. Stop somewhere bigger than the convenience store downstairs for that one spice you needed. Throw on something nice, a tee shirt thick cotton that makes you look fashionable effortlessly, then let this piece draw all the attention to exactly where it should be.Your outfit is put together. Your eyebrows don't need drawing and that's enough for today.

When I first laid out all the colours to begin this bracelet, it felt like abundance. Abundance on repeat. Jadeite comes in more colours than most people know. Lavender, icy, yellow, honey, orange, teal, lake green, this bracelet holds most of them in one place. One piece. Many treasures.The shade matching took forever. Every bead selected so the tints flow uniformly around the bracelet, not random. A gradient that flows like light through water.
The main clasp is 316 stainless steel, plated in 18k gold, hypoallergenic and guaranteed by our suppliers not to fade. The bracelet is strung on Beadalon 7-strand micro wire with a protective gold nylon coating, so the colour of the wire disappears into the piece.I always imagined someone wearing this to a tea party or as the one bright thing against a very monochromatic corporate outfit. The colleague who looks pulled together but then you notice the wrist and suddenly she looks complete.

Garden Series: Jadeite Leaf with Intense Green Spacer

Leaf element is our best selling element. This one is carved from Jadeite, appears milky and opaque. It is large, detailed and slightly sheer in certain light. The kind of piece that makes people stop mid-conversation.The intense green jadeite spacer bead, it is a bridge between the leaf and the chain so the piece feels grounded, not floating. The wire holding it together is twisted by hand, adding texture where the eye naturally lands. A curved tube is secured on both ends with wire to the chain so the leaf always sits centred.It could a Friday at work and you feel boho chic so you throw on monstera leaf print shirt, 2 buttons down, stacked above is a dainty chain diamond pendant choker style. Or, wear it long with the extension that comes with the necklace for a different proportion entirely.White jadeite is quietly extraordinary against whatever you put it with.

Classic Squarish Doughnut Pendant

Most jadeite doughnuts are rounded and polished into softness. This pair of jadeite are not most doughnuts. Cut from the same stone, they carry a sharp edge. That edge is the highlight. It is what makes them feel like a modern accessory rather than a traditional one. Same colour, same character.You could be matching this with bold gold hoops. The gold across the ear and down the neck is the chain necklace. The look becomes unique with the jadeite so it is not cold, metallic and uniform.You can wear bold accessories to work, sit through the whole day in them, and still have them on when she walks into the gym to clear some tension at the end of it.The sharp edge stays. The lotus has meant something across every culture that has ever grown beside water. An enlightened soul. A life that rises clean from difficult ground. I keep coming back to lotus not just because of the symbolism but also the lines. The curves appear calm and elegant. We have here a deep forest green jadeite lotus leaf carving. This colour, this depth of green, is what gives jadeite its value. The rich intensity of the colour is valued by many.The 18k yellow gold bezel is handset due to the organic form. The pastel green cord and freshwater pearls were chosen to complement the stone, not compete with it.A random breakfast morning in Tanjong Pagar. She wears a linen sleeveless blouse, structured Adidas shorts, longer socks with low ankle shoes. The kind of outfit that looks effortless and she throws on the bracelet, she didn't have to think about additional styling.

All bookings are confirmed upon receipt of payment where applicable. You will receive a confirmation email with your appointment details.Cancellation
We require a minimum of 24 hours notice for cancellations. Cancellations made within 24 hours of the appointment will be considered a no-show.No Show
In the event of a no-show, your deposit will not be refunded. However it will be converted into Gems by Rui credits which are redeemable against any future purchase or booking.Rescheduling

All sales are final. Due to the nature of jadeite, a natural stone, we are unable to accept returns or exchanges. Each piece is unique and cannot be guaranteed against accidental damage after purchase. We recommend handling your piece with care and keeping it away from harsh chemicals, extreme temperatures and hard surfaces. We do not offer cash refunds. Returns are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and accepted only for valid concerns such as damaged or incorrect items. Approved returns will be issued as store credits.Jadeite Care
